Morgan Interact

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14-18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.

The Clinton Rotary Club has had the opportunity to sponsor, and become involved with the great young people at the Morgan High School since 1998. This Interact club has seen the growth of its membership every year. Headed by advisor, Kate Iverson, they are involved in community (soup kitchen, Youth and Family Services, SARAH, Read to Grow program, providing weekly meals for a needy Clinton family of five, Ronald McDonald House, and numerous charity walks (ie. Multiple Sclerosis walk, Breast Cancer walk, HOPE walk, and most especially, the Clinton Rotary Shoreline Cancer Relief committee walk-a-thon and luminary lighting ceremony. In 2004, these great interactors received the District award for its close and thriving relationship with their sponsoring Clinton Rotary Club. They are also involved with International service projects (feeding the hungry in Haiti (cans of tuna in oil, chili, spam and peanut butter). This was the chosen project of Rotary's District Governor, Alan Hurst for 2005. Morgan was the winning club from all others in the state. They collected 676 cans of needed nutrition, which was delivered to the Haitian Health Foundation, in Norwich, CT by Rotary's members (who also provided the necessary can openers to complete the challenge)! On Jan. 29, 2006, Samantha Lee, the then current Interact president, left with a contingency of 16 other Rotarians, to Jeremie, Haiti- all expenses paid. She had the opportunity of her life (and made front page news in the Harbor News). She spoke to Rotary clubs and there is a moving powerpoint presentation available for viewing. These young people must meet attendance requirements, and participate in recorded hours of service. Believe me, they go above and beyond! AND, they have lots of fun along the way, and have learned how wonderful it is to give of oneself. We are lucky to have Rotary Liaison Linda Gworek supporting them.
